Flares of March First Movement

March 1st Movement (Samil Movement), which took place on March 1, 1919, marks the public display of Koreans resistance against the repressive nature of colonial occupation during the rule of Korea by Japan from 1910 to 1945. All poems in Flares of March First Movement [아,1919 삼일의불길 in Korean] recite public demonstrations and peaceful displays of ardent longings of citizens of Wonju and its neighbouring areas for liberation from Japan that took place in Wonju and its adjacent areas from late March to early April in 1919.

All poems were written by Kim Seong-soo (Mr.), member of Wonju Writers’ Association.

Wonju

The poetry book Wonju [원주原州 in its original title in Korean and Chinese characters combined] is mostly everything about Wonju itself, from unpaved, pebbled countryside road to what we can commonly find in nature such as hot summer, hornet, rice paddy, utility pole stretched along countryside roads, and bird songs to Mt. Chiak-san, a national park that is in Wonju and represents Wonju and to what the poet also feels living in Wonju.

All poems were written by Lee Moo-gwon (Mr.), member of Wonju Writers’Association.
